Save instantly on your heating & cooling upgrade.
The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program gives every Victorian household an instant point-of-purchase discount when you replace your existing heating system with an efficient reverse cycle unit. No rebate forms, no reimbursement claims — the discount comes off your quote. We handle the eligibility check, the paperwork, and the partner coordination.
There are two different rebates for Victorian households
These get confused all the time. They're separate programs covering different upgrades. Quickly check which one applies to your project — and we'll guide you through both if you need both.
Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU)
Instant point-of-purchase discount when you replace heating with a reverse cycle system (heating + cooling). Covers splits, multi-splits, and ducted systems.
Hot Water Heat Pump Rebate
Solar Victoria rebate for replacing your hot water system with an efficient heat pump. Different program, different paperwork, different eligibility (income and property value limits apply).
From eligibility check to installed system
VEU is designed to be invisible to you — the discount applies to your quote and the paperwork happens behind the scenes. Here's what each step actually involves.
Eligibility check
Tell us your property address, age, and what heating system you have now. We'll confirm in minutes whether you qualify.
5 minutes from youRight-sized recommendation
We assess your space, usage and budget — and recommend the optimal system. Not generic suggestions; sized for your actual home.
We do thisItemised pricing
Our certified VEU partners verify your eligibility and apply the approved discount directly to your quote. You see the discount itemised — no surprises.
We do thisInstall & admin
We coordinate supply, install professionally, and complete all required VEU documentation. The discount has already applied at quote stage.
We do thisWe're not VEU-accredited — and that's deliberate.
Some installers are directly accredited under the VEU scheme. We're not. Instead, we work alongside certified accredited providers who handle the VEU verification, certificate creation, and compliance paperwork.
Why? Because direct accreditation locks installers into specific product lines and compliance overheads that can compromise honest, design-first recommendations. Our way: we recommend the right system for your home, and our accredited partners verify it qualifies and apply the discount. You get unbiased advice and the full discount.
What this means for you
What VEU actually covers
The discount amount varies depending on what you're replacing and what you're installing. Larger systems and ducted setups attract higher discounts. Here's the rough shape of what's eligible.
Splits, multi-splits, room heaters
- Replacing gas room heaters with reverse cycle splits
- Replacing electric resistance heaters with efficient splits
- Replacing whole-house gas ducted with multiple splits or VRV
- Upgrading older reverse cycle splits to current efficiency
Whole-home ducted reverse cycle
- Replacing electric resistance ducted heating with ducted reverse cycle
- Replacing ducted gas heaters (discount varies with system size)
- New ducted reverse cycle installations (no existing system needed for new homes)
- Larger systems and multi-split configurations attract higher VEEC discount tiers
It's a discount — not a free system.
VEU products cannot be supplied free of charge. You'll always contribute a minimum amount to the cost of your upgrade — the contribution varies based on system type and capacity. Non-ducted systems have lower minimum contributions; larger ducted or multi-split systems have higher ones. We'll show you the exact discount and your contribution on the itemised quote before you commit to anything. No surprises, no fine print.
VEU rebate questions answered
How much will I actually save?
Your final cost is the retail price of the system minus the VEU discount, plus your mandatory minimum customer contribution. The exact discount depends on three things: what you're replacing (gas ducted, electric resistance, etc.), what you're installing (split, ducted, multi-split, capacity), and current VEEC certificate market prices. Because VEEC pricing fluctuates with market conditions, we confirm the final discount and your contribution at the booking stage — itemised on your quote.
Are there income limits or means tests?
No. The VEU program has no minimum or maximum income requirements. Every Victorian household and business is eligible to apply for the discount. (Note: the Solar Victoria Hot Water Rebate — a separate program — does have income and property value limits. If you're after a hot water heat pump rebate, see our hot water heat pump rebates page.)
Do you service my area?
We service Greater Melbourne and surrounding regions — typically within approximately 100km of the Melbourne CBD. Our home territory is South East Melbourne but we travel further regularly. If you're unsure whether we cover your suburb, just call or get in touch and we'll confirm.
Are you VEU accredited?
No — and that's deliberate. We partner with certified VEU-accredited providers who verify your eligibility and process all VEU documentation. This keeps our system recommendations honest and unbiased (we're not locked into specific products to maintain our own accreditation), and you receive the full discount through the partnership. The accreditation paperwork happens behind the scenes; from your side, the discount appears on your quote like any other line item.
How long does the VEU program run?
The Victorian Energy Upgrades program has been extended with long-term certainty by the Victorian Government. There's no looming deadline. Discount amounts can vary over time as VEEC certificate prices fluctuate with market demand, but the program itself is committed long-term.
Do I need to choose from a specific "approved product" list?
You don't need to research products yourself. We recommend the right system for your home and usage, then our accredited partners confirm whether it's listed on the VEU-approved products register and meets minimum warranty requirements. If a recommended product isn't VEU-approved, we'll tell you upfront and either suggest a comparable approved option or explain the trade-offs.
What information do you need for the eligibility check?
To confirm your eligibility quickly we'll need: your property address and approximate age, brief details (and ideally a photo) of your existing heating system and electrical switchboard, and a rough overview of how you use heating and cooling. From there we'll let you know if any additional documentation is needed. The whole eligibility check usually takes a few days from initial contact to confirmation.
Can I claim VEU and the Solar Victoria Hot Water rebate together?
Yes, but they're separate claims for different upgrades. VEU covers your reverse cycle heating/cooling upgrade; Solar Victoria covers a hot water heat pump replacement. If you're doing both — say, replacing gas ducted heating and a gas storage hot water system at the same time — they apply independently. We can coordinate both rebates on the same project. See the hot water rebates page for details.
