The boiler runs everything — the thermostat runs the boiler
Every hydronic system has two essentials: a heat source (the boiler) and the brain that tells it what to do (the thermostat). We install Bosch, Immergas and Ideal boilers — internal or external — paired with Honeywell, Siemens or Bosch smart controls. One quiet, efficient system running the whole home.
Internal or external — where will the boiler live?
Modern condensing gas boilers come in two physical configurations: indoor wall-hung units installed in a laundry, garage or utility cupboard, or weatherproof external units mounted on an outside wall. The performance is similar — the right choice depends on your home's layout, ventilation, and how much indoor space you can give up.
Internal boilers
Wall-hung condensing units installed inside the home — typically in a laundry, garage, utility cupboard or plant room. Compact and easy to service, but they need a flue path to the outside and adequate ventilation in the space.
- Quieter — internal walls dampen any operating sound
- Easy access for service and maintenance
- Protected from weather extremes
- Requires a flue route and ventilation clearances
External boilers
Weatherproof condensing units mounted on an outside wall. Frees up indoor cupboard space and simplifies the flue arrangement. Built to handle Melbourne winters with proper IP-rated enclosures and freeze protection.
- No indoor space used — frees up cupboards and laundries
- Simpler flue arrangement
- Ideal for renovations with limited internal space
- Weatherproof enclosure and freeze protection built in
Trusted boilers with full warranty support
We install boilers from manufacturers with proven Australian service networks and parts availability. Whichever brand we recommend, you'll have warranty cover and a clear path for service down the track.
The brain that makes the boiler efficient
A boiler is only as efficient as the controls telling it what to do. Modern smart thermostats learn your routine, run different zones at different temperatures, and let you adjust everything from your phone — turning a fixed-output boiler into a responsive, room-by-room comfort system.
We install Honeywell, Siemens and Bosch Smart Home thermostats, and zoning controls that let bedrooms, living areas and bathrooms run on independent schedules.

Boiler & thermostat questions answered
How long does a hydronic boiler last?
Modern condensing gas boilers typically last 15–20 years with regular servicing. The biggest factor is annual maintenance — a quick service each year keeps the heat exchanger clean, catches small issues early, and protects the warranty. We offer service plans that handle this automatically.
What size boiler do I need?
It depends on the size of the home, the type and number of emitters (radiators, underfloor, trench convectors), and how well the building is insulated. We do a proper heat-loss calculation as part of the design — undersizing leads to a cold home, oversizing wastes energy and shortens boiler life. There's no shortcut to a real assessment.
Should I switch to an electric heat pump instead of replacing my gas boiler?
That's the big question for any home with an ageing boiler. Heat pumps are now mature, rebate-eligible in Victoria, and pair brilliantly with hydronic emitters at lower flow temperatures. Gas boilers still make sense in some scenarios (existing high-temp radiator systems, off-grid properties, very large homes). We'll walk through both options honestly — see our electric heating page for the all-electric alternative.
Can a smart thermostat work with my existing boiler?
Often yes — most modern boilers (Bosch, Immergas, Ideal and others) support OpenTherm or similar smart-control protocols. Older boilers may need a wired interface or a more basic thermostat type. We confirm compatibility during the assessment and recommend the right control to match.
What's the difference between a combi boiler and a system boiler?
A combi boiler heats both your hydronic system and your hot water on demand — no separate hot water tank needed. A system boiler heats only the hydronic loop, with hot water handled by a separate cylinder or heat pump. Combi boilers save space; system boilers are usually better for larger homes with multiple bathrooms running simultaneously.
How does zoning save money?
Without zoning, every emitter in the house heats whenever the boiler fires — so empty bedrooms stay warm at the same temperature as occupied living areas. Zoning lets you set each zone independently: 21°C in the living room, 18°C in the bedrooms, off entirely in unused areas. In a typical 4-bedroom home that's often a 15–25% reduction in heating energy.
Do I need to service my boiler every year?
Yes — annual servicing is required under most manufacturer warranties and is genuinely the cheapest way to extend the boiler's life. A typical service takes 60–90 minutes and includes flue analysis, cleaning the heat exchanger, checking pressure and gas safety. See our service and repairs page.
