Keep it running well — or fix it when it stops.
Annual maintenance keeps your heating and cooling system efficient and reliable. And when something stops working — usually at the worst possible time — we can diagnose, repair or recommend replacement, depending on the system's age and condition. Honest assessment, no upsell.
Two reasons people call us
Annual service or maintenance plan
Catching small issues before they become expensive ones. Best done before summer (cooling check) or before winter (heating check).
See what's includedRepair, breakdown or fault
Heating not working, AC blowing warm air, strange noises, water leaks, error codes. We diagnose and either repair or honestly tell you it's time to replace.
Jump to repairsWhy routine servicing matters more than people think
Heating and cooling equipment is complex machinery running thousands of hours a year. Like any machinery, it degrades quietly until it doesn't. Annual servicing catches the early signs — and keeps the system efficient enough that the energy bill doesn't creep upward year after year.
Efficiency stays high
Clogged filters, dirty coils and degraded refrigerant levels all push energy consumption upward — slowly at first, then sharply. Service restores efficiency to near-original.
Lifespan extends
A serviced system can run a decade longer than one that's been neglected. Compressors, motors and pumps all wear faster when contaminants build up.
Comfort stays consistent
The "it doesn't quite warm up like it used to" complaint usually means the system has drifted out of spec. Service brings it back to design performance.
Air quality improves
Filters and coils collect dust, pollen, particulates and (in poorly ventilated systems) mould. Clean filters mean less of that recirculating through your home.
Best practice is once a year. For heavily-used ducted systems or homes with pets, twice a year (pre-summer and pre-winter) is worth considering.
When something's stopped working
Heating systems fail in winter. Air conditioners fail in heatwaves. That's just how it goes — equipment under maximum load is the most likely to break. When it happens, you need a quick honest diagnosis and a clear path forward.
We diagnose the fault, give you a transparent repair quote, and — critically — tell you honestly whether repair makes sense given the system's age and condition. Sometimes the right answer is to repair. Sometimes it's to replace. We don't push either way; we explain what we'd do in your shoes.
Common faults we see
Repair or replace? Here's how we think about it.
An older system can fail in expensive ways. Sometimes a $400 repair gets you another five years. Sometimes a $400 repair gets you four months before the next failure. The honest answer depends on age, refrigerant type, parts availability, and how much you've already spent in the last 18 months.
What we'll actually tell you
If your system is under 10 years old, has had no major issues, and the failed component is a known-fix (capacitor, contactor, fan motor, control board, sensor), repair is almost certainly the right call. If it's 15+ years old, uses R22 refrigerant (phased out since 2020), and the compressor or heat exchanger has failed — repair rarely makes economic sense. We'll show you the numbers, including the VEU discount you'd get on replacement, so you can make the call with full information. See our VEU rebates page for what's available on replacement.
All major heating & cooling systems
If we install it, we service it. We also service most major brands installed by others — though we may need to assess older or unusual systems first.
Split & multi-split AC
Wall-mounted indoor units, outdoor condensers, refrigerant pressure, filter cleaning. See split systems →
Ducted reverse cycle
Whole-home ducted heating and cooling, including zone controllers and return-air filters. See ducted →
Hydronic heating
Boilers, radiators, underfloor and trench convectors. Pump checks, pressure, system flushing. See hydronic →

Service & repair questions answered
How often should I service my heating & cooling system?
Once a year is a sensible baseline for most residential systems. Ducted systems that run heavily through summer and winter, homes with pets (more hair and dander loading the filters), and older systems all benefit from twice-yearly service — once before the cooling season, once before heating. Hydronic systems and gas heaters in particular need annual checks for safety reasons (combustion, CO).
How quickly can you come out for a repair?
For genuine breakdowns where you've lost heating or cooling, we prioritise as quickly as we can. In peak winter and summer that may mean next-day rather than same-day. Call us and we'll give you an honest estimate of when we can be there — and if it's longer than you can wait, we'll tell you that too so you can decide what to do.
Do you service brands you didn't install?
Yes — we service all major brands regardless of who installed them. Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Brivis, Braemar, Bosch, and most hydronic brands. For older or unusual systems, we may need to assess on the first visit before committing to ongoing service. Some very old systems with discontinued parts can't be economically serviced — we'll tell you that upfront rather than charge for a diagnostic that goes nowhere.
What does an annual service cost?
It depends on the system type, complexity, and whether you're a single visit or on a recurring plan. Recurring service plans work out cheaper per visit. Call or get in touch and we'll give you a clear quote based on your system — no surprise add-ons.
You diagnosed a fault. Should I always repair, or sometimes replace?
Honestly — sometimes replace. Our rough rule: if your system is over 15 years old, the repair quote is more than half the cost of replacement, and the failure involves the major components (compressor, heat exchanger, gas valve assembly), replacement usually wins. The VEU rebate on a reverse cycle replacement often closes much of the cost gap. We'll lay out both options so you can decide with the actual numbers in front of you.
Do you offer maintenance plans / contracts?
Yes — we offer recurring maintenance arrangements that schedule your service automatically, so you don't have to remember. Plans work out cheaper than ad-hoc service calls and ensure your system gets checked at the right times. Ask us when booking your first service.
My system uses R22 refrigerant. Is that still serviceable?
R22 has been phased out in Australia since 2020 and is no longer being manufactured. Any R22 still in circulation comes from reclaimed stock, which is increasingly scarce and expensive. For systems that have lost refrigerant due to a leak, refilling R22 is technically possible but rarely cost-effective. In most cases, the right answer is replacement with a current R32 or similar system — which also brings significant efficiency gains and qualifies for the VEU discount.
What's the difference between a service and a repair?
A service is planned preventive maintenance — a scheduled visit where we inspect, clean, test, and replace consumables (filters) on a working system. A repair is a reactive visit to fix something that's stopped working or is performing badly. Annual servicing significantly reduces the frequency of repairs, but it doesn't eliminate them entirely — components do eventually fail.
